I. Introduction.

John 1:41–46 KJV 1900
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
It was a fair question “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”
A little abrupt, right?
“Can anything good come from there?”
Most would expect very little from the Nazareth they knew of, if indeed they had even heard of it.
But I am interested: What say you?
If you had been there that hot afternoon, if you had heard that question, what would you have said?
How would you formulate your remarks?
Nazareth was known to them as little more than a dirty village.
Even the best and brightest, the most prominent citizens, would have been considered a mere yokel peasant and a rustic back in Jerusalem!
But then you know a thing or two more than Nathanael did that day.
“Anything good you ask?”
“Uh-huh. You could say that.
